'King' Of The Box Office
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The box office leader remained the same at multiplexes. The Lion King was king of the box office. Again.
The animated adventure, in 3-D, finished first at the box office in its second weekend of re-release, besting the four new attractions by earning an estimated $22-million.
Moneyball, the biographical baseball dramedy starring Brad Pitt, was second, taking in just under $21-million on its debut weekend.
The third spot belonged to the family drama, Dolphin Tale, which earned just over $20-million.
The thriller, Abduction, featuring Taylor Lautner, earned $11-million, good for fourth. And Killer Elite, the new action thriller with Jason Statham and Robert De Niro, was fifth with $9-million.
Overall, with The Lion King leading the way, industry-wide totals were well ahead of those on the counterpart September weekend last year.
