Limerick Officials Shut Down Second Reactor In Less Than Two Weeks

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Officials at the Limerick nuclear power plant in Montgomery County say they had to shut down one of their reactors Friday for repairs; a little more than a week after having to put another reactor offline.
Plant officials say on July 18th, they had to shut down their Unit 1 reactor for an electrical problem due to a quote, "unusual event" involving a transformer.
Repairs took place and Unit 1 got back to full power earlier this week. But then word came through a statement that they had to put Unit 2 offline.
Officials say crews are replacing a valve on the steam piping system and they can only do that work with the reactor shutdown.
After the valve is replaced, officials say they'll test the system before getting Unit 2 back online, but no word on a timetable for that to happen.
