Lehigh Valley Bacon Race Takes Concept Of Jog And Hog To Whole New Level
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Well, this is one race that certainly isn't good for your health.
Minor League Baseball team the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs is planning the first-ever "Bacon 5K Challenge." But this isn't just a race for bacon lovers; it also requires eating bacon during the event. A lot of bacon.
The 5K is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19th as part of the weekend-long "Bacon Days" celebration. Participants not only need to run the 5K; they also need to make a midway pit stop and devour a whopping half-pound of bacon. Then, it's another 2.5K of running to the finish line.
Prizes will be offered for the overall male and female winners who manage to jog and hog the heap of crispy pig successfully. And even if you don't finish, there's always the post-race bash – featuring live entertainment, beverages and of course, more bacon -- as a consolation prize.
The race costs $45 and anyone who signs up gets chip timing, a half-pound of bacon at the halfway point, one beverage ticket and (the best part) a "commemorative 'Scratch and Sniff' bacon race Dri-Tech t-shirt."
