Lee Returns As Phillies Open Series With Giants At CBP
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Cliff Lee will return from the disabled list tonight to make the start on the mound for the Phillies as they open a four-game series with San Francisco at Citizens Bank Park.
Lee will be making his first start since May 18th when he beat the Reds, allowing two runs in 6 2/3 innings of work. Soon after that start, he was placed on the DL with an elbow issue. In three rehab starts with Single-A Clearwater, Lee went 0-1 with a 5.06 ERA. Of course with the trade deadline approaching, several scouts are expected to be in attendance to see how the veteran left-hander looks.
In addition to Lee, two other Phillies have been activated off the disabled list in catcher Wil Nieves and infielder Reid Brignac. To make room for them on the roster, outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. has been designated for assignment, catcher Koyie Hill outrighted off the 40-man-roster and infielder Cesar Hernandez optioned to AAA Lehigh Valley.
The Giants will counter on the mound tonight with right-hander Ryan Vogelsong. He is 5-7 this season and he has lost his last four starts, despite pitching well. His ERA is 2.92 during his personal four-game losing streak. Vogelsong spent time in the Phillies' organization back in 2010, going 2-5 for AAA Lehigh Valley with a 4.91 ERA.
The Phillies line-up tonight against Vogelsong:
1. Grady Sizemore CF
2. Jimmy Rollins SS
3. Chase Utley 2B
4. Ryan Howard 1B
5. Marlon Byrd RF
6. Domonic Brown LF
