Lee Gives Philadelphia A Victory Off The Mound
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - In cities across America, journalists are reporting the story of Cliff Lee signing with the Philadelphia Phillies. It's not just a sport victory, but in several respects it's a huge political victory.
In the greatest sports region in the country -- from Allentown to Atlantic City, South to Delaware, West to Harrisburg and all points in between -- people are cheering for Cliff Lee. Not because of his incredible pitching or his numerous awards, and his bravado on the pitching mound, but because he said, "I would rather be in Philadelphia."
He let the titans of New York and the oil barrens of Texas know that, yes, he would take less money and less time to play for the greatest fans in America. That, my friends, is a victory that will always be savored.
