Le Toux Helps Union Beat Crew, Snap Skid
CHESTER, Pa. (AP) -- Sebastien Le Toux scored his team-leading seventh goal in the 32nd minute and the Philadelphia Union snapped an eight-match winless streak with a 1-0 victory over the Columbus Crew on Saturday night.
The Union ended an 0-3-5 stretch that dated to a 3-0 victory July 17 at New England.
A standing room-only sellout of 18,906 at PPL Park saw Philadelphia improve to 6-1-8 at home with its first victory in four tries against Columbus.
The Union (9-7-12) moved into third place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind the Crew and one point behind Sporting Kansas City, which played later at Real Salt Lake.
Columbus is 0-3-1 in its last four matches and fell to 3-8-3 on the road.
Union rookie goalkeeper Zac MacMath picked up his second consecutive shutout in place of MLS All-Star Faryd Mondragon, who has a broken finger.
