LCB Issues Dozens Of Permits For Wine To Go

By Tony Romeo

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- The Liquor Control Board this week issued the first 84 permits for sales of wine to-go in grocery stores and other businesses, including more than a dozen permits for establishments in the Philadelphia area.

It's another part of the Liquor Control Board's implementation of an overhaul of state liquor laws signed by Governor Wolf in June.

Businesses that have restaurant liquor licenses, including grocery stores, can sell wine for consumption on premises.

Now the LCB has issued the first permits for those businesses to sell wine to go, but LCB member Mike Negra says it may take a while for bottles of wine to show up on their shelves.

"Maybe 60 days until more of a widespread implementation due the logistical issues of ordering and being able to fulfill those orders."

Negra says there are 12,000 restaurant licenses in Pennsylvania right now, there another hundred or so applications for permits to sell wine to go on top of the 84 permits just approved.
