Lawyer: Kathleen Kane Won't Resign; Investigation 'Politically Motivated'
By John McDevitt, Matt Rivers
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The lawyer for Kathleen Kane was in Philadelphia Saturday addressing allegations that the Pennsylvania Attorney General illegally leaked secret grand jury information to a Philadelphia newspaper.
Kane's lawyer, Lanny Davis, says his client did nothing wrong and the first term democrat is being railroaded by republican "men with grudges" in attempt to get her out of office:
"She is, in fact, innocent and, no, she will not let this kind of a campaign against her that is driven by angry, vengeful people and I believe some political forces...she will not let them prevail."
Davis says the action is being taken because of Kane's review of the Jerry Sandusky child abuse case and pornography found on state computers. Davis didn't confirm if any of the reports were true, but did say Kane won't step down.
"So I ask the public and all of you in the media withhold your judgement, don't come to conclusions on guilt." Davis says.
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman will need to decide if charges will be filed against the state's attorney general.
"She (Kane) was truthful at all times when she testified before the grand jury and she will be found innocent," Davis says.
Experts tell CBS3 say it could be weeks before a decision is made.
