Lawsuits Claim Whole Foods Yogurt Is Labeled Incorrectly
By Justin Udo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Two new lawsuits filed in Pennsylvania and New Jersey claim that Whole Foods Markets are intentionally mislabeling their products to make them look healthier than what they actually are.
Consumer Reports says Whole Foods store brand Greek yogurt has five times more sugar than the label lists.
"It's not the end of the world, but if you're a diabetic, that's a pretty serious thing," said Joseph Osefchen.
Osefchen is the lawyer who filed the class action suits against the grocery chain. He says Whole Foods was made aware of their mislabeled product in mid-July, and is yet to correct their mistake.
"It's your money, and $1.29 is not a fortune," he said. "But it's more than most Greek yogurts, and if you're paying that extra because you think it has less sugar, you are entitled to get that."
Osefchen says the suit asks for Whole Foods to change their labeling on the product and to repay customers who purchased the yogurt under false pretenses.
A call to Whole Foods was not returned.
