Law Enforcement Comes Up With Strategy To Ensure Commuters Safety
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Shortly after the deadly attacks in Belgium, heavy security was clearly visible at Amtrak's 30th Street Station and along Septa bus, rail and trolley lines.
Septa Police Chief Tom Nestel, who spoke to reporters moments after getting off a nationwide conference call with other departments and the FBI emphasized, while there was no credible threat to our region, riders would see more officers at transit stops.
Nestel says as officials here receive more details about how the attacks were carried out, it's crucial for riders to remain alert.
For those who think dialing "911" to report suspicious activity would bother police, Nestel had a simple order,"Bother us."
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross also told Eyewitness News both Homeland Security and FBI officials indicate no threats to our region.
However, Ross says, as a precaution, more officers will patrol selected sites.
Meanwhile, as they boarded Amtrak trains at 30th St. Station near officers with heavy weapons slung over their shoulders, most passengers indicated, while they are shaken by the latest terrorist attack, they remain confident in security here and refuse to alter their way of life or travel plans.
