LaVar Arrington Still Going Through Healing Process, Mourning Paterno's Death
By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Former All-American and NFL All-Pro linebacker LaVar Arrington was one of the most outspoken Penn State alumni during the storm that has surrounded the school's football program over the last year, but he's still not sure how to feel about all of it.
"I'm trying to sort through all of it as it pertains to my alma mater and the school that I love in Penn State," Arringtold told 94WIP's Rob Ellis and Dan Klecko on Wednesday. Arrington is a talk show host on WIP sister station 106.7 The Fan in Washington DC. "I watch and support the team, and that's kind of where I leave it at this moment. Like most , I don't want to speak for all of the other letter men or even the alums, but I still think we're trying to go through that healing process through everything that has taken place."
The school's football program was slapped with unprecedented sanctions by the NCAA. The 2012 team is 3-2 so far this season, most recently defeating Illinois 35-7. But it's not just the football side of things that Arrington still needs clarity on.
"Obviously there are bigger issues here than just football that have to be addressed," he said. "And I think that when you're responsible about something to the magnitude that this is at a place like Penn State, you're left with what's left of all of it, to pick the pieces up."
"So I cheer for the team, I watch them play, I don't miss a game. I love my school, love my alma mater. But as it pertains to everything that has taken place, I'm still at that place, you know obviously still mourning the death of, in my opinion still a great man in Joe Paterno. Still trying to make sense of everything how things were handled. Just trying to get clarity on all of it, and you know, you don't just move past that because football games are being played now, so that's kind of where I'm at with it."
