Lancaster Avenue Jazz and Community Arts Festival Takes Place Saturday

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Lancaster Avenue Jazz and Community Arts Festival will take place tomorrow in Sanders Park in West Philadelphia.
It started out as a block party, but the word spread and in this, its fourth year, hundreds are expected to turn out to enjoy free music, art, information and lots of fun.
"We want to bring the best to our neighborhoods."
Paulette Adams is the manager of Community Partnerships for the People's Emergency Center, which provides transitional housing for homeless women. She says her organization hosts the festival each year to provide affordable fun for everyone.
"We don't want to have families that come and then it's like, 'oh we can't do this because we can't afford it financially.' So we wanted to do something where people could come and engage and not have a whole lot of money to do it."
She says there will be free performances from local jazz greats, as well as those who have traveled the world.
"Vertical Current will be there in full force. We have Doc Gibbs who has played with every jazz great you can think of. We're also going to feature Jazz Planet, which is another really great guy -- Burt Harris and his group."
There will be a moon bounce, tie-dye station and other free activities. The festival runs from noon to six. Go to PEC-cares.org for more info.
