KYW Newsradio Opens Nominations For 2015 Black History Month 'Gamechangers'
Nominations are now open for KYW Newsradio's "Philadelphia Gamechangers" series for Black History Month 2015.
For the third year in a row, KYW Newsradio 1060 will highlight individuals who have "changed the game" for the African-American community in the Greater Philadelphia area.
Gamechangers are individuals or organizations that have used their volunteer efforts and community influence to make a significant, positive change for people of color in the previous twelve months.
For each of the previous two years, KYW's Gamechangers series recognized ten individuals. Examples of their accomplishments included recruiting cadets of color to help New Jersey graduate the most diverse class of state troopers in state history, transforming one of Philadelphia's "most dangerous" high schools into a center for learning, and overcoming disabilities to change the lives of young people through early family intervention!

Now, put on your thinking cap! Who do you know who has changed the Black community for the better this past year?
Here are the rules.
Gamechanger nominees:
- must live in the eight-county Greater Philadelphia area, which includes (besides Philadelphia,) Montgomery, Delaware, Chester, and Bucks counties in Pennsylvania, and Camden and Gloucester counties in New Jersey.
- must have had a significant positive impact on African-Americans in the Greater Philadelphia area in 2014 by improving health, quality of life, education, employment, or other measures for this community.
- can be of any racial, ethnic, or religious background.
- can be an individual, group, or an organization.
Nominate your Philadelphia Gamechanger by e-mailing CommunityAffairs@kyw.com with your reasons for nominating your choice. It can be a short essay, a slideshow, a video (link via YouTube or similar service), or a sound recording (via SoundCloud or similar), explaining why you believe the person(s) or organization "changed the game" for the Black community in 2014.

The deadline for nominations is 11:59pm on January 19, 2015 (Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Day). Gamechangers will be decided by January 30th and will be featured on KYW Newsradio 1060 and on CBSphilly.com during February 2015 ("Black History Month").
