KYW Flashback: Sandusky Child Sex Abuse Scandal Rattles The State
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (CBS) - A gripping trial three years ago impacted every corner of Pennsylvania.
There have been sensational murder cases, political corruption and racketeering that captured statewide attention. But it was the case of a child molester named Jerry Sandusky that shook the very foundations of a revered educational institution and toppled a Pennsylvania icon.
The fallout continues to fuel controversy to this day.
Sandusky coached at Penn State under the legendary Joe Paterno. Paterno's career was shattered with allegations that Sandusky was sexually abusing young boys on campus, and that he and top administrators knew, but did nothing in order to shield the University.
At age 71, Sandusky is jailed for 30 to 60 years.
