KYW Flashback: Pennsylvania State Police Scandal Shakes The State
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- It was 12 years ago, that KYW Newsradio and TV reporters gained access to dozens of incendiary files, moments before they were sealed by the court.
They detailed stunning cases of sexual misconduct by Pennsylvania State Police. It was the largest scandal of its kind in state history.
They revealed repeated instances of sex with informants and with prostitutes or others in exchange for promised cover-ups. The files unveiled on-duty incidents, some in patrol cars and one inside the Skippack barracks.
The files were later re-opened and revealed as many as 75 troopers had been investigated. Governor Rendell was fuming and began a top-to-bottom house cleaning.
