KYW Flashback: Farmlands Develope Into More In The Suburbs
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) - In the 1970's, KYW aired farm reports.
Suburban features often revolved around pleasant Sunday drives in the country. Western Montgomery and Chester Counties embraced rolling farmland.
By 1985, all that changed.
The final section of Route 422 had opened. It triggered a mass migration of housing westward from King of Prussia to Berks County.
Young families bought reasonably priced homes and commuted to new office and industrial complexes in Valley Forge, Exton and Malvern.
The pristine farmland turned to shopping centers and housing developments with a modern set of problems. The focus of the KYW Suburban Bureau changed with it.
