KYW Flashback: Doylestown Museum Showcases Bucks County
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- When we think of a community dedicated to art with pristine settings and an environment to nurture the creative muse, Bucks County leaps to the top of the list.
The county was awash in local artists. Finally in 1988 it was about to open a Doylestown museum dedicated to their creative works.
County commissioners had backed the concept for more than 2 decades. Now with the influence of prolific author James Michener, the support of philanthropists Gerry and Marguerite Lenfest and the availability of the former Bucks County Prison, a museum was born.
With a nucleus of Michener's own collection and outstanding local works, the exhibits have drawn critical national acclaim.
