KYW Flashback: Bicentennial Celebrations Held In Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia played host to two bicentennial celebrations. KYW Newsradio was there to report every event surrounding the 200th anniversary of America's Independence.
Then in 1987, the bicentennial of the United States Constitution. A parade of thousands wound its way to Independence Hall where President Reagan spoke about the framers of the constitution rising above deep political divisions to create a democratic union.
At 4 in the afternoon, the time the document was signed 200 years before, Chief Justice Warren Burger struck the Liberty Bell to memorialize the moment. And a Penn's Landing picnic capped the day.
