KLM Offers New Seating Assignments Via Social Media Sites

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A Dutch airline is letting passengers use a social media website to choose who they will sit with on the plane.
A new flight reservation program through KLM airlines allows passengers to see the Facebook and LinkedIn profiles of those on their flights -- and put in requests to sit next to a stranger. And the reaction from travelers is a mixed bag.
"Wow."
"It's kind of creepy, I think."
"I can study up on them and act interested."
Reporter: "You think it will give you a leg up on the dating scene in the air?"
"Yes!"
Some passengers at Philadelphia International Airport admit they've been in the flight waiting area, hoping to be seated next to that someone over there -- and not seated next to someone else.
"I don't want to be the one that someone doesn't want to sit next to because of my profile!"
Right now, requests based on social media profiles are only available on KLM's New York to Amsterdam flights, but some say they wouldn't be surprised if this because a common flight application.
"Well, I think it's a matter of the world catching up with the technology."
