Kitten Season

By Nan Talleno

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The ASPCA states that millions of healthy cats and kittens are tragically and unnecessarily euthanized each year simply because there aren't enough families to adopt them. For homeless felines, kitten season, which is under way right now, is the worst time of year.

Kitten season refers to breeding season, between early spring and late fall, when animal shelters across the country are flooded with homeless cats and newborn kittens, and what happens to many of these babies is nothing short of tragic. Every cat and every kitten truly deserves a home.

The ASPCA is fighting tirelessly to create new ways to save cats' lives - using new technology, creating life-saving programs and conducting cutting-edge research. They strive to never give up.

You can help.

If you are thinking of adopting a cat, now is a great time to do it. If you've ever considered fostering a cat or kitten, please contact your nearest shelter to volunteer. Your help is desperately needed.

And if you can, please consider giving to the ASPCA today. Help them in their ongoing quest to rescue animals in every state from homelessness and cruelty. Contact them at ASPCA.org.
