King of Prussia Mall Opens Electric Car Charging Stations -- And They're Free
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) - The King of Prussia Mall is adding a new, "green" amenity for its customers -- at least those customers who arrive in an electric car.
"Charge it" now has another meaning at the Montgomery County shopping mecca. The mall has installed two electric vehicle charging stations, with plans to install two more later this fall.
As electric vehicles grow in popularity, the mall wanted to take the lead in giving consumers a place to recharge while they do their shopping.
"We're very conscious of sustainability and green efforts at the mall," says mall general manager Bob Hart, "and this is just one of many initiatives. And we feel it's the right thing to do, and we want to be on the forefront."
Charging will be free for now, but Hart expects there will be some cost down the road as demand for the charging stations increases.
The stations are self-serve and have the capability to "top off" or partially charge an electric vehicle in a 60- to 120-minute time frame.
