'King Gimp' Brings His Unusual Art To Temple's Tyler School Of Art

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Temple University is hosting an unusual artist Thursday night. He's a painter and motivational speaker, a combination that's tricky because he has no control of his limbs and has great difficulty talking. He goes by the name "King Gimp".
"No one could understand I was intelligent inside of this body," says artist Dan Keplinger in the documentary about his life, "King Gimp."
Keplinger has cerebral palsy but in high school he discovered a gift for painting compelling images with a brush attached to a harness around his head.
"King Gimp" was a nickname neighbors gave him as a kid but he decided "gimp" meant "Fighting Spirit" and embraced the name.
The documentary will be shown at 5 p.m., Thursday, October 3, at the Tyler School of Art on Temple's main campus, followed by a question and answer session with Keplinger. The event is free and open to the public.
