Kermit Gosnell Gets 30 Years In Drug Sentencing
By Kim Glovas
PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--Dr. Kermit Gosnell was sentenced Monday in federal court for distribution of drugs from his West Philadelphia doctor's office.
This is almost a footnote to the three consecutive life terms he is already serving for murder and other crimes.
Kermit Gosnell made national headlines when he was tried and convicted of murder and other crimes after performing illegal, late-term abortions at his West Philadelphia clinic.
The crimes came to light while the FBI and DEA were investigating reports of a pill mill being operated out of Gosnell's office.
Judge Cynthia Rufe sentenced Gosnell to 30-years in prison, and ordered him to pay a $1,200 penalty and $50,000 fine.
Judge Rufe told Gosnell he made a hypocrisy out of his Hippocratic Oath and that these crimes would not have been committed if the doctor did not have the means and the place to carry them out.
The prosecution showed Gosnell sold prescriptions for over 600,000 oxycodone pills alone, many to the same customers.
