Keep Safety In Mind When Trick Or Treating
Philadelphia (CBS) -- Halloween is a time for trick or treating and has the potential for great fun but there are certain risks that need to be talked about.
The most dramatic is the fact that children need reflectors on their costumes or bright colored costumes. Many wear masks and have their visual fields cut by the small eye holes and when you combine this with the fact that it is getting dark earlier in the evening, there is potential for being hit by a car.
Kids should also stay with adults who can guide them.
There are concerns for adults as well. If you happen to be driving at that time of night – and there will be fewer because Halloween is not on a workday this year -- be extremely careful and look out for the ghosts and goblins.
If you are walking with the children be careful as well. There are lots of small holes and divots along most trick or treating paths, as well as hills and curbs. It is easy to fall and hurt yourself.
Finally, don't let the kids eat any candy until you inspect it.
