Jury Hears Opening Arguments In Federal Sex Trafficking Case
By Tony Hanson
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A federal prosecutor tells a jury a Mayfair man sold women for sex and among them was a 17-year-old girl. The defendant is charged with sex trafficking of a minor and production of child pornography.
Prosecutor Michelle Morgan has told the jury defendant Enoch Smith posted pictures of the victim, advertisements on an internet website, making her for sale for sex.
"And I can tell you what this case is about is the defendant selling a teenage girl like a piece of meat," And Morgan told the jury they'll hear from this victim and hear the horrible fate she suffered at the hands of this man.
Smith has pleaded not guilty and defense attorney William J Brennan has challenged the jury to make the prosecution prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Brennan told the jury if and when the government has not proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, to find Smith not guilty.
