Jurors In Gosnell Trial Review Testimony Of Former Clinic Worker
by Tony Hanson
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The deliberating jury in the murder trial of abortion Doctor Kermit Gosnell has spent the day reviewing the testimony of a key witness and participant in the horrors inside the West Philadelphia clinic. KYW's Tony Hanson reports the jury asked to re-hear the testimony of former clinic worker Lynda Williams.
Lynda Williams pleaded guilty to two murders and Doctor Kermit Gosnell is charged in these same two cases.
Williams, untrained, with a grade school education and serious mental health issues, testified she cut the neck of a baby born spontaneously while the doctor was not at the clinic. She says the baby moved and then she cut the neck. She says that's what the doctor told her to do, it was standard procedure.
She also pleaded guilty to the murder of a woman who died at the clinic. Williams administered multiple doses of medications to the woman who authorities say died from a medication overdose.
The defense challenged Williams' recollection of events and timelines, citing previous inconsistent statements. And the defense contends the woman died from an adverse reaction to medications, not an overdose.
Gosnell has pleaded not guilty.
