Juniata Park Man Busted For Impersonating A Cop
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A 23-year-old Philadelphia man is now in custody after authorities say he tried to rob two other men while impersonating a police officer.
It was 8:15pm Tuesday night. Police say suspect Christopher Cruz, with an official-looking badge and handcuffs, approached two cousins in their early 20s near basketball courts at "I" and Cayuga Streets in the city's Juniata Park section.
Authorities say Cruz told the men he was a cop and they had to turn around and put their hands up.
The victims did so and, police say, Cruz searched both men, asking them if they had any money.
The victims realized Cruz wasn't an officer and kept questioning him. Police say Cruz then fled on foot and eventually jumped into a car.
The victims called 911 and officers quickly found and stopped Cruz two miles away, near a playground.
Police took Cruz into custody and say a gun was found in his car, so Cruz was being charged with gun offenses and impersonating an officer.
The victims were not injured.
