Judge To Hear Arguments In NFL Concussions Case Today In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A federal judge in Philadelphia today hears arguments on whether to dismiss a class action lawsuit accusing the NFL of hiding the risks of concussions.
The class action suit by more than 4,000 former NFL players accuses the league of hiding the dangers of concussions (see related story). Players want their case to remain in federal court, where they can use the rules of discovery to get a look at NFL files to find out what the league knew about the effects of repetitive brain injuries.
The NFL, though, is expected to argue that players' health and safety were covered under collective bargaining agreements -- so the matter should be heard by a labor arbitrator.
Judge Anita Brody is not expected to rule for several months, and her decision will likely be appealed.
