Judge Remands Bridgegate Complaint Against NJ Governor For A New Hearing
HACKENSACK, NJ (CBS) -- A northern New Jersey judge has ordered a new municipal court hearing on a private complaint alleging Governor Chris Christie failed to act during the Bridgegate scandal in 2013.
Attorneys for the Governor argued the matter should be thrown out, that a Bergen County municipal judge could not find probable cause in the complaint filed by a former Teaneck fireman. Bill Brennan based his contention on federal trial testimony that led to the convictions of two former Christie aides, convictions that are being appealed.
Superior Court Judge Bonnie Mizdol, in a 9 page opinion, didn't dismiss the complaint, but she agreed that Christie's interests should have been represented at the original October hearing and weren't.
So the case goes back to the municipal court judge for another probable cause hearing.
No date has been scheduled for that new hearing before Municipal Judge Roy McGeady.
