Judge Grants Delay In Trial Of Northampton Woman Who Killed Father Of Her 4 Kids
EASTON, Pa. (AP) — A judge has granted a delay in the trial of an eastern Pennsylvania woman who could face the death penalty if convicted of killing the father of her four children just hours before a scheduled custody hearing.
A Northampton County judge said Tuesday that he was reluctantly pushing the trial back to January after defense attorneys said they needed more time to adequately represent 43-year-old Elizabeth Collazo.
Prosecutors allege that Collazo broke into the Williams Township home of 38-year-old Mark Werkheiser and shot him six times on March 15.
Investigators allege that Collazo confessed to the crime during a phone conversation, but defense attorneys are trying to have the recording tossed out.
Collazo called out "I love you" to three of her children as she was led from the courtroom.
