Joe Paterno Sets Major Record At Penn State
Philadelphia (CBS) – Joe Paterno has notched his 400th career victory -- giving the man at the helm of Penn State football more wins than any other major college coach in the country.
In honor and in awe, the 100,000-plus crowd chanted 'Joe Paterno' throughout the fourth quarter. Beaver Stadium public address announcer Dean DeVore says the atmosphere was electric:
"It was just kind of a great big love fest, and it should be. They were giving love to a man who has done so much for Penn State University."
The 83-year-old Paterno has led PSU on the gridiron since 1966. But he didn't want any fuss made over this achievement:
"We still got some ballgames to play. We can't look back. We gotta look forward."
But Penn State senior and Mt. Airy native Evan Brock says the Nittany Lions' legend has earned a permanent spot in the limelight:
"I always feel like Joe Paterno is just going to out outlive and outcoach everybody."
