Job-Seeker Beware, Some Are Out To Scam You
(CBS) - With the unemployment rate stuck stubbornly high, some of the jobless are getting themselves in even more trouble, thanks to crooks.
A sad story out of Delaware County found a 56-year-old man responding to a job pitch that sent him a check and asked him to send some of the money back. Sadly the incoming check was a fake, the outgoing ones real. Andy Goode, of the Better Business Bureau, says a red flag to look out for is if a job-seeker has to pay money.
"A person normally shouldn't have to pay any money up front to take a job. They shouldn't have to pay money to get trained. They shouldn't have to pay money for materials or supplies," Goode said. "They shouldn't have to wire back money to somebody offering a job."
Goode also says the job hunt can require some skepticism and research if you don't want to get burned. Also, watch out what personal information you give as some scams result in identity theft.
