Jimmy Binns, Friend of Philadelphia Cops, Arrested in NJ Shore Dispute
By Ian Bush
A Philadelphia lawyer and police benefactor found himself behind bars this week -- arrested over a dispute with a neighbor at the Jersey shore.
Jimmy Binns (far right in photo) usually is standing shoulder to shoulder with cops at the "hero plaque" dedications. He founded that program, has donated a variety of equipment to the police department, and raises money for fallen officers' families as head of the Hero Thrill Show.
But yesterday, Binns was in handcuffs, picked up in Margate, NJ for having his neighbor's air conditioners disconnected.
"They became annoying over the summer and I told the neighbor about it, and the neighbor more or less said he wasn't going to do anything about it," Binns says.
Binns claims there's no easement that gives the man the right to have the condenser units, which Binns says were attached to his adjacent property.
"They were attached to my wall, which then vibrate the entire wall of the house. It was something that you couldn't live with," he told KYW Newsradio this morning.
A Margate police spokesman calls it an "evolving situation." Binns has a court date set for next month on a criminal mischief charge but thinks it will be dropped.
"I have peace and quiet, and I have millions of phone calls of support. And I would do the exact same thing today that I did," Binns says.
