Jersey Shore Residents Face Pipe Issues Due To Extremely Cold Weather

VENTNOR CITY, NJ (CBS) – Fire Department and Public Works crews have been answering non-stop calls this week for burst pipes as the Jersey Shore experiences wind chills far below zero degrees.
In Ventnor City, there have been about 80 calls for burst pipes, and officials estimate there are millions of dollars worth of damages.
There is also deep concern that spraying pipes could hit electrical outlets and cause fires.
"Our main concern is to get out there, evaluate the structure and see if we can gain control of the utilities," says Ventnor City Fire Chief John Hazlett.
Most of the burst pipes are happening in empty vacation and foreclosed homes.
Alex Lenicky from Bucks County, PA rushed to his second home on Dorsett Ave Thursday after receiving a call from a neighbor about water flowing out of the crawl space below the house.
"Fortunately, my house is dry inside, so I'm one of the fortunate ones, it's just a matter of getting the pipes fixed after this," says Lenicky.
