Jersey Shore Cops Say They're Ready For Prom Weekend Revelers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- For many students, "prom night" is just not one night. Nowadays, it may include a weekend at the shore.
Taylor DiVirgilio, a senior at Hallahan Catholic High School for Girls in South Philadelphia, says she is ready.
"Saturday morning we'll all drive down the shore and stay till Sunday," she tells KYW Newsradio.
Shore police are ready for the parties, the drinking, and even the drugs. Sea Isle City police lieutenant Kirk Rohrer says officers will be driving by liquor stores and bars and cracking down on underage revelers.
"We do contact parents," he notes, "and anything that would be illegal we would potentially arrest whoever it is."
He says fines and arrest records can be costly to the wallet and the student's future. But he believes young people are getting the message, because in recent years he's seen fewer post-prom problems.
