Jersey Shore Businesses: Sandy A Thing Of The Past
By John Ostapkovich
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It's an annual question this time of year: how's business down the Jersey shore? This year, it's complicated by the legacy of Hurricane Sandy, but early reports are pretty encouraging.
There were great crowds as the weekend progressed, says Michelle Gillian, executive director of the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce. Measured how?
"We had great beach tag sales. Our parking lots were full. The boardwalk's full. Downtown's full and now our bay activities are really in full force."
Those bay activities have a new hub.
"The Welcome Center is not officially open but people walk around the decks and see the observation parts. They can go fishing and boating and do all those fun things of running and biking so we have lots of visitors out on the bay this year, which is a new attraction for people in Ocean City this year and they're really enjoying it."
Although, her people are still fielding calls about the lingering effects of Hurricane Sandy.
"I think it might be something that we have to work on. We're certainly not putting it aside yet. We want people to know we're open for business. We don't want them to be confused at all."
Gillian says there's still some work ahead to make sure people know Sandy's a thing of the past.
