Jay-Z, Philadelphia Mayor Announce Labor Day Weekend Music Festival

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Rapper Jay-Z joined Mayor Michael Nutter on Monday morning atop the steps of the Art Museum to announce a two-day music festival coming to Philadelphia to benefit The United Way.

"Everyone knows my love affair with Philly from the amazing and talented artists I've signed from here," said Jay-Z, who will curate and headline the blockbuster event.

The event, called "Made in America," will take place on Labor Day weekend along the Ben Franklin Parkway in Fairmount Park and include nearly 30 musical acts on three stages. Among those performing, rapper and Philadelphia native, "Freeway."

"You know Jay-Z, he brought M.J. to Madison Square Garden so you can only imagine who he's going to bring," said Freeway. Jay-Z in Philadelphia to announce history making music festival coming to the City of Brotherly Love this fall.

The list of performing artists cultivated by Jay-Z will be announced May 21. They include acts ranging from hip-hop, rock, R&B, Latin and dance.

Mayor Michael Nutter knows this concert, will draw thousands of people to Philadelphia, which means a boast to the local economy.

"It will be a good time on the business side, a lot of money spent," said Nutter.

"We're just happy to be apart of it, for the benefit of the economy and community," said Patricia Washington, Vice President of Cultural Tourism with Greater Philadelphia Marketing Corporation.

For her, this concert is a perfect example of how the Philly 360 initiative is working.

"It's a campaign where we work with music artist and bring entertainment industry into the tourism and promotion industry, to help promote Philadelphia," said Washington.

Tickets for the event go on sale May 23 through ticketmaster.com and Livenation.com. There will be a limited number of $99 tickets (plus service charges), which are good for entry on both days of the concert -- September 1st and 2nd.

An undisclosed portion of the proceeds will go to The United Way.

The event sponsor, Budweiser, will make pre-sale tickets available to their Facebook fans at www.facebook.com/Budweiser.

"It is going to be a great day in Philly," said Jay-Z. "I look forward to seeing you guys.
