Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Unexpected Vacation Weather
When a big city getaway is overrun by snow-covered streets and a teeth-chattering chill, it's best to get into a warm museum.

I found myself going back in time recently -- to kindergarten, and my first eye-popping look at those dinosaur rooms in the cavernous American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
The reaction of kids today isn't much different than it was seven decades ago.
(Child #1:) "The dinosaurs are so big!"
(Child #2:) "I like them so much and I like them a lot."
(Child #3:) "So much big!"
But one mom points out that the kids didn't stumble into this lost world without some preparation.
"The teacher worked in class (telling them) about the dinosaurs, showed them pictures and the history," she explained.
You can spend days roaming the 45 exhibition halls here, and be transported from South Seas island adventures to a cosmic collision in the Hayden Planetarium.
This museum of my childhood sprawls over four city blocks, and has an indoor subway entrance to take the bite out of a foul-weather New York getaway.
Here in Philadelphia, you'll find lots of indoor options for a day off, including but not limited to the Museum of Art, the "Please Touch" Museum, the Franklin Institute, and more! But when the snow is heavy, call first or check CBS Philly's list of community cancellations.
