Jay Lloyd's Getaway: The Merry Month of May
By Jay Lloyd
BAILEYS BAY, Bermuda (CBS) -- May: it's my favorite getaway month.
Resorts here and abroad can't wait for the summer rush, and getaway seekers should consider May "prime time."
Near or far, prices are down, temperatures are up. Basking at the beach is possible, and short-sleeved golf days are here. Boaters have already burned their socks and are making waves.
The biggest plus is that we don't have to deal with crowds, tables are readily available for deck dining at scenic locations, and choice seats are available on Broadway.
Here's a fer-instance: I just booked a prime Lincoln Center-area hotel for $125 less a night than the going price in June.
Elsewhere, golf packages in the Poconos still carry spring rates, and even normally stratospheric-priced Bermuda hotels are offering relative bargains for a May stay, when the weather is spectacular. (And it's only two hours away!)
A spontaneous getaway is always the best kind, especially if you have no plans for Mother's Day.
