Jay Lloyd's Getaway: The Hudson River Promenade, NYC
By Jay Lloyd
NEW YORK, N.Y. (CBS) -- New Yorkers love it, but visitors rarely see it.
Manhattan's riverside promenade takes you along the Hudson River from the Upper West Side to the Battery.
Within a few blocks of the 79th Street Boat Basin, there's outdoor dining with a spectacular view, free kayaking, bicycle rentals, a bracing run, or a pleasant stroll.
New Yorker Sarah Irby finds it an ideal getaway that's a short stroll away from home.
"It's almost an escape from New York within New York," she says. "You're on the water in front of a beautiful marina."

Before the Irbys continued biking one of the most eye-filling Gotham cityscapes, her son Derek echoed the feeling.
"Everybody would love it here, to get an escape from New York," Derek says.
So, next time your getaway takes you to New York and you want a getaway within a getaway, head for the Hudson River and the 79th Street Boat Basin. Then, rent a bike, take a kayak ride, or just stroll!
