Jay Lloyd's Getaway: The Freshest Seafood in North America

CAPE BRETON ISLAND, Nova Scotia (CBS) -- Autumn comes early to the Canadian maritime provinces, but I go where my taste buds lead me.
And in the fall, they lead to Pleasant Bay, a small and colorful fishing village on Cape Breton, where you can buy lobster just minutes out of the water.
-----
"Just ask the captain what you want and he'll be glad to sell to you," says Richard Timmons of his fellow lobstermen.
Or just walk up the hill to the Rusty Anchor -- where part of Timmons' catch goes, and Liz Timmons watches the kitchen.
"We get our mussels a half hour from here, we get our oysters a half hour from here," Liz notes.
Local and fresh is what you'll find.
-----
And in Halifax, at an eclectic eatery called Fid, we found the bounty of the Grand Banks.
"We're getting all kinds of beautiful haddock, halibut, perch –- incredible fish," says owner-chef Dennis Johnston.
If you want it all, virtually every eatery in Nova Scotia offers its own version of amazing seafood chowder.
Halifax is just an hour and 45 minutes from Philadelphia by air.
