CANEEL BAY, V.I. (CBS) -- This weekend we welcome the first day of summer in the Delaware Valley, prime time for beachgoers, hikers, and bicyclists.
Which makes it off-season somewhere else. And that gives us an opportunity to recall a fantasy getaway of yesteryear, with its bargain-basement price.
There's a magnetic lure to the Caribbean: lazy days, perhaps sailing over coral waters under a blue sky. Or maybe zoning out at a beach bar, in a hammock, a cold beer in hand.
It's the stuff of fantasies.

But it comes with a grinding price tag if you go in winter -- "in season."
But now, as spring migrates into summer, prices drop on everything in the Caribbean, including charter sailboats (with a skipper if you don't know how to sail, or without if you do), hotel rooms, and cruise line packages.
But how's the weather, you ask? Barring a hurricane, which usually allows for cancellation of your reservations, there might be a bit of rain and lighter winds.
In Aruba, the weather is constant year-round. Having lived in St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda, I can attest to the fact that there isn't a season in the Caribbean that doesn't produce fun.
And the next few months are much more affordable!
