Jay Lloyd's Getaway: The Annual Pirates' Weekend on the Chesapeake

By Jay Lloyd

ROCK HALL, Md. (CBS) -- This weekend, the pirates of the Chesapeake will be swarming ashore at the nearby port of Rock Hall, Maryland.

If you've never seen it, it's a blast!

A rum tasting and a sea-shanty pub crawl launch the weekend as the boating town of Rock Hall, with a population of 1,500, is swarmed by at least 5,000 wannabe buccaneers.

Cap'n Mark Einstein, the lead corsair, notes that everyone wants to get into a role.

"You can expect to see all kinds of crazy costumes," he tells me.

For men, the costumes are simple and easy to put together: a sash, an eye patch, a flared blouse, and ratty shorts.

But for the lady buccaneers, it's not so simple.

"You are looking at about $400," says Lady Anna (below).  "The hat was $55. The corset was $115."

But Hollywood never saw a more glamorous turnout. Perfect for the Saturday night "Buccaneers' Ball" at the Waterman's Crab House.

And don't forget the Caribbean beach party, a dinghy race (top photo), and plenty of swashbuckling activity for the kids.

So, set a course, me hearties, for the 17th-Century port of Rock Hall, Md.!   Aarrrgh!
