Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Run To Toronto
By Jay Lloyd
TORONTO, Ont. (CBS) -- If you crave big city summer getaways, here's a single word of advice: Toronto.
If there's a more vibrant, clean, engaging city in North America, I haven't found it yet. It's an ongoing festival with a dynamic water view.
"We have ten acres on the central waterfront," says Melony Fernandez, who plans festivals here that range from jazz to hot-and-spicy cuisine.
There are scenic boat rides and a diversity of restaurants that reflect the 92 languages spoken here -– all in the shadow of the imposing CN Tower. Ride to the top if you have the fortitude! Or, as one British visitor put it, "I think I'm going to conquer my fear and do it anyway."
----
Or, visit the distillery area that played a key role in the Prohibition era, then take in a Blue Jays game in the heart of a town that's easy to get around.
.
"Basically, the city is like a grid," our tour guide, Lucien, explains. And it's walkable, supplemented with good public transit.

Make a visit to Toronto once, and you'll be back. I know I will.
