Jay Lloyd's Getaway: No Need To Go Far To Have Fun
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A special occasion that calls for a night of luxury can be as simple as an overnight stay in your own back yard -- well, figuratively. On a recent getaway, my wife and I headed into center city Philadelphia.
It was a night of dining and theatre with a touch of luxury. We left the car at home, took the train into town, and strolled to the Ritz-Carlton, right on the Avenue of the Arts.
So, after dining at the Ritz, how do we make sure to get from table to theatre by curtain time?
"Get the chef's tasting menu, which is already decided and can be executed quickly," advises chef Jennifer Carroll (right) at the epicurean restaurant, 10 Arts.
Their tasting menu, she says, is a sampling of dishes -- from their signature brook trout to wine-brandy-sauced short ribs.
But the pampering doesn't stop when the theatre curtain falls, she adds.
"We have a great lounge with sofas and chairs, and maybe you want some dessert."
It's a lounge that was once the marbled lobby of the Girard Trust Bank. Now it buzzes over martinis and artisan cheese plates.
A morning stop at the spa, then train back home, and it all became a nearby getaway to remember!
