Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Luxurious Baseball in Toronto
By Jay Lloyd
TORONTO, Ont. (CBS) -- Not only ball teams go on the road. Fans do, too!
My dad thought baseball was a subway sport: go no farther than the A train! He wouldn't understand a first-rate hotel built into a ballpark for hordes of traveling fans.
"We have 70 rooms that open up into the stadium," says Mark Ive, who runs the Renaissance Hotel at the Rogers Centre (formerly the Skydome), the home of the Toronto Blue Jays.
At the hotel, you can sit on your balcony, order room service, and watch a game.
Or, you can munch your way through a prime rib at a windowside table in the Arriba Restaurant (top photo), which is part of the hotel. It's a rare treat.
.
And in the ballpark, chef Kevin Birch serves up a Canadian favorite: poutine.
.
He explains that it starts with French fries. "We put nice Canadian cheddar cheese curds on it, and a chicken-and-beef gravy."

Fans were fascinated. "It's incredible," noted one.
And the stadium is domed: open in nice weather, closed in foul.
