Jay Lloyd's Getaway: More From Nova Scotia
Less than two hours' flying from Philadelphia, KYW's Jay Lloyd continues his Nova Scotia getaway.

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (CBS) -- This week we're in Canada's historic and largest seaport, Halifax.
A dynamic and modern city, the skyline of Halifax is dominated by an 18th-century fortress, the Citadel, which overlooks the scenic harbor.

"This fort is bristling with guns. Nearly the whole harbor approaches could be covered by gunfire," notes War of 1812 reënactor Randy Westhaver, who enjoys sharing Nova Scotia's rich history.

The view from the harbor, cruising on the tall ship Silva with crew member Laurie Fischer, was no less imposing.
"You can get a lovely view of the Citadel, up on the hill," she noted.
This is the city from which the RMS Titanic rescue effort was launched, and where many victims are now buried.
You can dine in the former funeral home where those victims were brought in 1912. It's now a splendid restaurant called the Five Fishermen, which serves up a Titanic menu dinner.
"By doing so, we allow someone to experience a little bit of history," says restaurateur Maurice Kaneary. And if prodded, he will spin tales of Titanic ghosts still believed to walk the halls of that building.
