PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- For a spontaneous holiday getaway, there is a pair of destinations to launch the summer season and honor the men and women who served and sacrificed.
Here's a tough choice - a weekend ramble through a pristine countryside to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and a dramatic immersion into history - or a Top Gun weekend to wrap up Fleet Week in New York with music and history at the Sea, Air and Space Museum aboard the carrier Intrepid. Visitors to picturesque Gettysburg are often awestruck by the scope of the most significant battlefield in American history.
"We shouldn't forget those who served," said one visitor. "All gave some and some gave all."
To the north, the Hudson River at New York is alive with allied warships for Fleet Week. The museum ship Intrepid is the center of activity with - it's flight deck lined with aircraft from World War II to the Space Shuttle Enterprise. There's music and a free showing of Top Gun amid tours into America's military past.
