Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Irish Pubs For St. Patty's Day

By Jay Lloyd

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. (CBS) -- If you're planning a St. Patrick's Day getaway next week, here are a few prime choices that involve Irish pubs near and far.

Every year about this time, my e-mail offers from Aer Lingus take off.  If you're tempted into an impulse flight, head for Dublin.

My favorite spot to pub crawl there is the Temple Bar section, on the banks of the Liffey River.   But the best view in Dublin is from the pub atop the Guinness Storehouse (top photo), where the great Irish export was first brewed.

If it's a bit closer to home you'd rather be, the Dubliner on Stone Street in Lower Manhattan can compete with the best of them when it comes to beef and Guinness stew, not to mention a perfectly tapped pint of the traditional brew itself.

Getting even closer to home, Connor Cummings, who presides over Molly Maguire's in Phoenixville (below), ponders the global attraction of an Irish pub.

----

"It's a real cozy place to go," he says with a very authentic-sounding Irish brogue, "and it's a family environment."

The pub, or public house, is the perfect social setting for a St. Patty's celebration, even if you're not Irish.  And, they're everywhere!
