Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Crab Feast Getaway
By Jay Lloyd
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A regional getaway treat that pre-dates Captain John Smith and the Jamestown settlement is the old-fashioned Crab Feast. KYW's Jay Lloyd says this summer is producing a bumper crop.
As close as the nearby Chesapeake Bay, the Jersey shore or your own backyard, the Crab Feast craze is exploding. You'll find them at popular crab shacks, community and social club events - even Wegmans is hosting a couple. I caught up with one music filled feast fest at Haven Harbour Marina in Rock Hall, Maryland, where crab crackers explained the magic of moment.
Woman: "Lottsa' crabs, lottsa" mess and lottsa fun."
Man: "It means getting together with all our friends and family and enjoying a wonderful day and enjoying the crabs."
These crabs are from the nearby Chester River - large, heavy, sweet with backfin quarters that yield true giant lumps. Wash down with a favorite brew and revel in a truly local summertime treat.
